About Foreign Land
A man struggling with his sexuality returns home to his mother after serving in World War 2. Immediately she notices something is wrong, unaware that’s it’s what happened before the war, what home represents to him, that creates the conflict within.
A Statement from the Director...
With Foreign Land, I wanted to explore age old LGBTQ+ issues from a modern perspective; funnelling it through the lens of a World War 2 film, delving deep into a soldier’s sexuality in a way that audiences haven’t seen before. Therein lies the unique appeal of the film. It is a WW2 based drama with a twist.
Using a simple visual palette, detailed period design, sparse dialogue, putting the emphasis on performance, I want to convey one man’s struggle against a prejudiced time in the most raw, real and emotional way possible.
